In this review, I’m taking a close look at the Mischief Machine Echelon Commander Grip Module for the Springfield Armory Echelon. Machined from 7075-T6 aluminum with a hard-anodized finish, the Commander replaces the factory polymer frame with a metal grip module featuring a pure 1911-style grip angle and removable G10 grip panels and backstrap.

Mischief Machine offers the Echelon Commander in multiple configurations. The Full Size is designed for the 4.5-inch Echelon slide, while the 4.0FC combines the compact 4-inch slide with the full-size grip and magazines. There’s also a Compact version designed around the 4-inch slide and 15-round magazines. The Full Size Commander is also compatible with AXG P320-style magwells, although some aftermarket magazine baseplates may be required.
I’ll cover the fit, feel, ergonomics, build quality, shooting experience, and how the Commander compares to other Springfield Echelon grip module upgrades. Is the Mischief Machine Commander the best Echelon grip module currently available? Let’s find out.
